The swimming section of Esperance Sportive de Tunis has always been a source of pride for national sports, producing prominent figures in African and Arab swimming, such as Meriem Mizouni, Senda Gharbi, Saloua Obba, and Ali Gharbi, who have claimed Arab, African, and Mediterranean titles.
Over the years, the section was guided by a devoted group of parents of swimmers, including Mrs. Zahaf, Ksouri, Chemmari, and Mr. Chérif, Ghadhab, the late Hamadi Bahri, Habib Hriz, and others.
Between the 1970s and 1990s, the section grew significantly, achieving remarkable success, with membership reaching more than 300 swimmers including around 100 highly competitive athletes
This success was largely due to the expertise and dedication of a highly skilled coaching staff, including Moncef Cherif, Mhamed Mahjoub, Faycel Temimi, Néjib Belhassen, Moncef Trad, Mr. Mizouni, and others.
Going further, under the leadership of Slim Ben Romdhane, the water polo team was established, bringing together top-tier athletes. The team dominated the national and Maghreb scene, securing nearly all titles from the late 1980s for over a decade.
In 1996, the section was dissolved due to specialization concerns. However, in 2005, Dr. Mohamed Aïssaoui proposed its reopening, submitting a detailed request to the club’s executive committee.
After approval, he was appointed head of the section while the technical management was entrusted to the legendary champion Senda Gharbi
